At Tolkynneftegas LLC, environmental management is implemented through comprehensive environmental programs. Replacing previously adopted initiatives, including the “Environmental Safety in Oil Production in the Southwestern Region of the Republic of Kazakhstan,” the company developed and approved its third environmental program in 2014. This initiative is designed to maintain environmental conditions in the Mangystau region at a regulatory-acceptable level, aligned with the self-healing potential of natural ecosystems.
In accordance with the ISO 14001:2004 standard, under which Tolkynneftegas LLC’s environmental management system is certified, the company employs a structured methodology of “consistent procedures.” This approach ensures that follow-up actions are based on data from prior environmental assessments, forming a continuous cycle of improvement. The company has established a systematic sequence of environmental management procedures to enhance sustainability and compliance.
With the expansion of operations, acquisition of assets, and strengthened international partnerships, the company’s operational scale, environmental impact, and responsibilities have significantly increased. As a result, Tolkynneftegas LLC has undertaken a comprehensive update of its environmental safety policy, making it a strategic priority. This includes a detailed environmental risk assessment reflecting the company’s broader operational scope.
Protection and Industrial Safety
In 2014, Tolkynneftegas LLC allocated 1.5 billion rubles towards key initiatives, including workplace certification, in-process monitoring of working conditions, provision of protective gear, and maintenance of safety equipment. To enhance the company’s role in Industrial Safety, Labor, and Environmental Protection (ISLEP), a standardized organizational structure for ISLEP services was developed and approved. Under this framework, ISLEP services report directly to company leadership, ensuring enhanced oversight and efficiency.
Innovation for Environmental Protection
As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability, Tolkynneftegas LLC is actively developing and testing advanced technologies aimed at minimizing its ecological footprint. Through its Innovative Development Program for Environmental Safety, the company is implementing various projects focused on environmental and economic assessments of operational and planned technologies, as well as the development and integration of new remediation technologies.
One of the most innovative and environmentally responsible solutions currently in use is the reinjection of drilling waste. Unlike conventional sludge disposal methods, this technique prevents waste accumulation on the surface, significantly reducing environmental exposure. Continuous monitoring ensures that this advanced method remains one of the most effective and sustainable practices in the global oil and gas industry.
