Oil Refining

Oil Refining

The main technological challenges in oil refining today relate to the modernization of refining facilities—an essential focus for all oil companies in Kazakhstan. As part of a national initiative, TOLKYNNEFTEGAS LLC is implementing advanced catalyst production facilities, pioneering innovative refining technologies, and significantly enhancing safety standards in the production of high-performance, environmentally friendly gasoline.

The refinery is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including the ED-AV-6 unit (commissioned in 2014) for initial oil refining, a catalytic reforming unit (2016), a gradual coking unit (2017), and a catalytic cracker (2014). The plant’s key processing units include the initial refining unit, the ED-AV-6 electric desalter, and the fuel oil vacuum distiller. To ensure compliance with international quality standards, TOLKYNNEFTEGAS LLC has adopted advanced fuel purification and naphthenic acid feedstock production technologies under licenses from the U.S.-based Merichem Company.

TOLKYNNEFTEGAS LLC offers a diverse range of more than 40 products, many of which are recognized among Kazakhstan’s top 100 goods. The refinery was honored with the Kazakhstan Republic Government Prize for outstanding achievements in product quality enhancement. Through continuous modernization efforts, TOLKYNNEFTEGAS LLC has significantly increased refining depth and improved the yield of light petroleum products, ensuring compliance with Euro-5 fuel standards.

Solid Acid Alkylation

Traditional alkylate production methods, such as sulfuric and hydrogen fluoride alkylation, involve hazardous catalysts that require stringent safety measures. In response, TOLKYNNEFTEGAS LLC, in collaboration with leading petrochemical scientists, is developing a cutting-edge solid acid alkylation technology utilizing a safe, zeolite-based catalyst.

As part of this initiative, the company has successfully produced a sufficient quantity of the new catalyst for pilot testing, with a facility capable of producing 300 tonnes of alkylate per day. This breakthrough in refining technology enhances safety while delivering high-performance fuel components to meet modern industry standards.
